policies and disclaimer

The works posted and made available by DamnYankee.com are the property of their authors.  The authors certify that these works are free of plagiarism, libel, slander, and errors in facts or assumptions.  In the same way that a commercial book store or public library cannot verify the truth, originality, and inoffensiveness of the contents of its shelves, nor can we.  Authors who have certified falsely are alone responsible for the consequences.

Nothing you read here or download from here may be further disseminated, sold, or altered unless the document specifically invites you to do so or unless you have permission in writing from the author.  Just as with a bound, paper-and-ink book, readers are bound by copyright law.  No one may modify a document obtained here.  No one may copy it and distribute it further, except that she may remove the file from her own computer and give it to someone else, in the same way she may give away a book from her shelf.  Brief passages may be quoted in reviews.  Published quotes must be attributed to their authors.

The opinions and beliefs expressed by the authors found here or by their characters are theirs alone.

DamnYankee.com professes to be objective.*  Therefore, you may find books with persuasions of many kinds.  However, we reserve the right to reject or remove works that we find offensive, either in their language or content.  Foul language simply isn’t necessary in order effectively to construct a character or convey a mood.  Somehow, the finest authors in the world before the 1960’s, and most since then, have told stories that are at times beautiful, hilarious, poignant, erotic, frightening, and gut-wrenching without relying on that language which has always characterized the sewer dweller.  Just because it became popular to be shocking a generation or two ago doesn’t mean we have to capitulate to that aberration of decency.

DamnYankee.com finds political correctness offensive and encourages authors freely to dance on those eggshells.  Pop culture delights in trashing the sensitivities of the past but wears its own armor of raw nerves.  We don’t bow to any political demand nor do we promote offending anyone except the perpetually indignant.

*DamnYankee.com has a philosophy, of course, which affects what we do.  We believe that not only is it possible to reject an evil point of view and remain objective, it is possible to remain objective only when rejecting evil’s point of view.
