A quiet revolution in publishing has begun. The Internet provides the greatest opportunity of all time for the worldwide dissemination of ideas, information, and creative expression through words and images. |

To non-Americans, a Yankee is
an American. To Americans, a Yankee is someone from "the
North." To northerners, a Yankee is someone from New England.
For New Englanders it becomes more complex. No one disagrees,
however, that the term Yankee includes anyone from Maine. To
Mainers, a Yankee is a member of a New York City baseball team. When
a Yankee is beyond his borders, so to speak, he risks the handle, damn
Yankee. While to southerners a Yankee is anyone in their midst from
the north, a damn Yankee is one who doesn't show any signs of going back
where he belongs.
DAWoobury Internet Publishing Solutions arose out of a need. Authors who find themselves left out of conventional publishing circles are discovering the Internet. Many, like their well-known colleagues on bestseller lists, are excellent writers who have simply written something that no traditional publisher believes will sell. Many more, also like their well-known colleagues on bestseller lists, are abominable writers who merely lack the advantage of a famous name or connections to get a book published and promoted. We are embarrassed by the decay of writing skills and the decline of expectations in America’s high schools and colleges. We are discouraged by the publishing establishment's worship of formula writing such that, as with some forms of music, all pieces look about alike. We want to promote quality literature and to encourage authors who have made the effort to accomplish something as stupendous as a good, original book. We believe the Internet is going to change the way people buy and read books. It will take years, but just as television news complements the daily newspaper, electronic books will complement paper-and-ink publishing. Other moves in publishing are emerging, too, such as print-on-demand. The future will probably be a melding of these two. Good literature that can't promise high sales need no longer languish in limbo. Not all writers expect to get rich. Not all readers expect sensational entertainment from books. Not all books deserve to be published, but not all unpublished books deserve total obscurity. And now, not all writers need to start individual web sites in order to offer their work. Our objective is to anticipate the services that will bring authors and readers together through the Internet. The potential is incalculable. And so is the chaos. DAWoodbury Internet Publishing Solutions brings together a modest publishing solution and an humble search-and-find solution. As the electronic publishing revolution spreads we will continue to look for needs that remain to be met and we will offer solutions. Looking ahead, DamnYankee.com is interested in publishing electronically in Braille -- (yes, the technology exists) and interested as well in rendering ebooks as audio books. The companion web site, eBooks-in-Print.com, is interested in listing all book-length electronic publications worldwide. DAWoodbury Internet Publishing Solutions is interested in advancing quality literature in any language by joining with foreign affiliates which mirror DamnYankee.com's belief in quality and integrity in writing. This is where we want to go. If we are wise, though, we will all acknowledge that the future changes before we arrive, with the incoherence and unlikely twists and turns of a narrative story being told by a four-year-old. It's a story being concocted as it's being told. Hang onto your hats. It's a ride around blind corners at breakneck speed. It's a collective journey away from the present toward as many separate goals as there are marchers. We may know where we want to go from today's vantage point. We're here to respond to and serve the future, feckless though it is. Contact us through DamnYankee.com. |
